One Standard, Two Worlds: Why VANDAL Exists

A driver shouldn’t need two definitions of good hardware.

The same person can spend Tuesday night chasing tenths on a simulator and Saturday strapped into a race car.

The environment changes dramatically. The expectation for the hardware shouldn’t.

For years, sim racing and motorsport hardware have largely developed as separate categories. One lives beside a PC. The other operates in an environment defined by vibration, heat, noise, gloves, rapid inputs and the demands of competition.

There are good reasons for those differences. But there is also far more overlap than the industry often acknowledges.

VANDAL exists in that overlap.

We believe racing hardware should be developed to one uncompromising engineering standard — whether the competition is virtual or real.

Sim is our home.

Our background is rooted in sim racing engineering.

Before VANDAL, members of our team spent years developing and shipping steering wheels, electronics and firmware for some of the leading brands in the sim racing industry.

Across the team, that represents more than 25 years of combined sim racing engineering experience and more than 20 racing products brought to market.

That experience taught us what racers notice.

The tactile feel of a control. The position of a button. Display readability. Firmware behavior. Manufacturing consistency. Serviceability. And ultimately, the difference between hardware that looks convincing and hardware that continues to perform after thousands of inputs.

Those lessons didn’t stay on the simulator.

Motorsport raises the standard.

Taking that experience into real motorsport introduces an entirely different operating environment.

Hardware has to tolerate vibration, temperature changes, repeated installation and removal, physical loads and the simple reality that a failure can end a session.

Controls have to work through gloves.

Information has to be understood at a glance.

Electronics have to behave predictably.

Components have to survive competition, not just a demonstration.

That’s why our approach to motorsport isn’t about taking something designed for a simulator and putting it into a race car.

It’s about applying everything we’ve learned from years of racing hardware development to a more demanding environment — and raising the engineering standard accordingly.

Built around the driver.

Whether we’re developing for sim racing or motorsport, the driver remains at the center of the system.

A racing interface shouldn’t demand attention. It should reduce workload.

Frequently used controls should fall naturally under the driver’s hands. Inputs should be distinguishable by feel. Displays should prioritize information that can be understood in fractions of a second.

The best racing hardware eventually becomes something the driver stops thinking about.

It simply works.

That’s a principle that carries from the simulator directly into motorsport.

One company. Both fronts.

VANDAL isn’t leaving sim racing behind to build motorsport hardware.

We’re developing both.

Our motorsport program is active today, while the next generation of VANDAL sim racing hardware is already in development.

The products won’t necessarily be the same, because the environments aren’t the same.

The standard will be.

Sim racing gives us an environment where controls, displays, electronics, firmware and driver interfaces can evolve rapidly.

Motorsport demands reliability, clarity and function under pressure.

Each discipline makes the other stronger.

Uncompromising. Precise. Reliable. Racing-bred.

Those four words define how we approach development.

We don’t ship “good enough.” If it doesn’t meet the standard, it doesn’t leave the building.
